China, and Beijing, is awash in excess. At the moment, clothing is one of the most available, affordable and widespread consumer goods on the market. ‘Made in China’ doesn’t even need to leave the country.
Overwhelmed by the immense clothing options and the shockingly low quality of many goods- I sought out the charm and durable quality of vintage stores I knew had to be tucked away.
And I was so pleasantly surprised. After a savory meal at Beijing’s only vegan restaurant, the Veggie Table, friends and I spent Thursday afternoon wandering down Wudaoying Hutong (hutongs are the little winding residential streets of old Beijing neighborhoods- every one is ultimately charming) stumbling upon gem after gem- small boutiques, eclectic finds, great design, old classics and sizes that actually fit us!
